Often when people think of visiting New York they automatically think of New York City but there are a number of exciting places to visit in the rest of New York as well. Upstate and Central New York are actually known for the fantastic scenery and natural wonders that call the areas home. You may not find many huge, fancy hotels here but you will have the opportunity to sit back and relax in front of a cozy fire place in a rustic log cabin. And that being said the best time to visit is quickly coming upon us as the scenery is even more spectacular during the fall and winter months. Here are just a few of the exciting places that you can visit in Upstate or Central New York.
Watkins Glen – Most often cited for its racing Watkins Glen is also home to a magnificent gorge where you can take a tour a view the parks 19 individual water falls, and 400 foot stream. Nestled in the heart of the Finger Lakes, not only is the Glen something to see but the surrounding area is amazing as well. And there is an added bonus if you visit in the fall as the foliage is definitely something to write home about and the crisp fall nights are perfect for a log cabin get away. Cozy up next to a warm fire by night and hike the massive gorge by day for a trip of a life time.
The Adirondack Mountains – The spectacular Adirondack Mountains are a natural wonder in and of itself. With 3,000 lakes, magnificent high peaks, 1,500 rivers and streams, and wildlife nearly untouched by man, the Adirondacks are truly an amazing place to visit. And just like the rest of New York the scenery throughout the year is just as beautiful but the fall months are by far the time to visit. Breath in the crisp mountain air and quietly watch the wonders of nature and you will leave refreshed and rejuvenated.
The Seneca Lake Wine Trail – A tour along the Seneca Wine Trail will leave the visitor with an amazing sense of peace that can be found few other places. A total of 35 wineries dot the spectacular Seneca Lake and each winery offers the visitor a different view of the beautiful lake. The Catskill Mountains – The Catskill Mountains are not only an amazing site to see but are also full of rich history that anyone will enjoy learning about.
