Bhopal Travel

Whenever we talk about Bhopal, the first thing that comes to mind is the world?s worst ever industrial disaster – a gas tragedy that the city of Bhopal faced in December 1984. The toxic gas that leaked from the Union Carbide factory claimed some 5,000 lives; the wounds of which are still afresh in the memories of Indians.

However, Bhopal is known for its laidback charm and is a part of the Malwa Plateau in the north-western part of Madhya Pradesh. The city, encompassed by hills, stretches along two artificial lakes, the Upper Lake and the Lower Lake. To the north of the lakes are bazaars and some old mosques flanked by narrow lanes. To the south is the new city with its leafy suburbs and industrial enclaves. The stately aura all around endows this town with a distinguishing appeal that never fails to impress even the most discriminating tourists. Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh was founded in the 11th century by Raja Bhoj of Paramara dynasty. Bhopal is also the gateway to visit some fascinating sites in Madhya Pradesh.
