Advice on Visiting Liverpool
Liverpool is one of the North West?s most vibrant cities and in 2008 was recognised as the European capital of culture. The cities colourful yet rich history has helped it create a big reputation and of course we cannot forget it’s the home of the Beatles.
Liverpool’s capital of culture status was in large parts down to the regions top attractions and diverse population. People from all over the world settle in the city and local landmarks are recognised all over the globe. Locals are also known as scousers and the city has over 435,000 inhabitants.
Visitors to the region can expect many exciting and wonderful things from the region and should consider some of the following things when visiting.
Attractions
Alberts Dock is probably the most recognised but the Mersey and Liverpool Football Club draw visitors from all over. These areas are generally very popular in summer months and the city is surrounded by many natural beauty spots. These beauty spots are frequently the most overlooked attractions of Liverpool. Beautiful coast lines and walking spots are all in close vicinity.
Arts & Entertainment
Liverpool in recent years has put a great deal of investment into art and entertainment projects and is generally appreciated in the local community. Some of the most established artists have featured their work in Liverpool. The new galleries also provide great centre pieces for show casing new work.
Live music also features heavily in the city. The area has several large concert halls and many of the country’s biggest bands play here. Visitors would typically expect to pay anywhere between ?12 and ?35 for a ticket.
Accommodation
Liverpool is home to a range of accommodation stretching from luxury hotels to budget ones. Liverpool hotels are well known for there welcoming atmosphere and are located right across the city. It is also worth noting that many cheap hotel rooms in Liverpool are designed to cater for groups. This is down to the sharp rise in hen and stag nights in the area.
Transport
Liverpool like many other North West cities is extremely easy to get around. Buses run all day long and trains give good access to neighbouring cities and districts. A bus ticket can cost anywhere between ?1 and ?3. It’s worth getting a transport map if you are visiting the area although there are always people on hand to help.
Night Life
The city is famed for its nightlife and no trip would be complete without a trip to the cities night spots. There are many kinds of bars and night clubs in the city and you can expect to pay between ?2 and ?3 for a pint of lager. Most bars have a relaxed and friendly atmosphere but some caution should be taken as to which bars you decide to visit. The bars also tend to get very busy at weekends and ques at the bar are a regular occurrence.
Liverpool is still very much a growing city and in the future plans have been put in place to help it catch up with Manchester’s growing status.
