However the city has a reputation for being the base of the notorious Italian mafia, known as the ‘Camorra’. So powerful are the mafia that when they decided to put there waste management companies on strike, Naples filled up with rubbish displaying the altogether more unsavoury side of the city. Tourists are advised to avoid the Quartieri Spagnoli, where the mafia hold sway, even though you are of little interest to them.

Naples is polluted and it can be dangerous but there are so many sights here worth seeing that it would be a crime to miss them.

Naples is one of the most atmospheric of Italian cities. It has many roots in ancient history such as the city of Pompeii in nearby Campania. In 79 AD Pompeii was covered in ash by the devastating eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The ash which fell preserved many objects of antiquity and made Pompeii one of the world’s foremost archaeological sights and tourist attractions. To find out more about Pompeii you can go to the National Archaeological Museum at the piazza Museo Nazionale.

Another site of historical interest is Herculaneum, a town which was caught in the mud slide from the Vesuvius eruption. Definitely make the time to see this during your trip but just keep a watchful eye on your belongings as Herculaneum is in one of the poorer areas of Italy. And don’t forget to do a trip to Mount Vesuvius itself ? if you dare ? this is one of the only active volcanos on the European continent.

Getting around is easy with car hire Naples and considerably less hassle than taking the bus or the train. Naples international airport is a busy international hub with flights from all over Europe.

Over the years many different peoples came to live in Naples including the Roman, the French and the Spanish and they have left there mark making Naples one of the most cosmopolitan of Italian cities. Much of the old Naples architecture is baroque but you will often see contrasting buildings of different eras and styles within a mere stone’s throw of each other. The Duomo is one of the standout edifices and it is dedicated to the patron saint San Gennaro.

Naples is a fantastic place to see great collected artworks and the Capodimonte museum at via Capodimonte has pieces from many masters including Titan.

Naples will also have pride of place within Italy as the home of pizza. To try it at its best go to da Michele at 1 Via Cesare Sersale. This excellent restaurant is closed on Sundays. Another place to do fine Neapolitan food is the Cantina della Tofa in vico della Tofa, also closed on Sundays. For aperitifs and good coffee there are many places to choose from so stroll around and have a look. The Piazzi Bellini is aptly named and this is where the beautiful people of Naples hang out and have fun.

It’s possible that your children are beginning to pressure you concerning the annual family getaway. But the reality is, the condition of this particular economic climate has most likely left little in regards to extra funds for an excursion across the country.

But there is good news. It doesn’t matter where you live you should realize that the options for a vacation getaway on a budget are almost endless as long as you know how to be imaginative. Even a cheap weekend getaway can serve our purposes. And you can take many of these a year since we can design them to be very affordable

Let’s go over some options that you may be able to take advantage of so you don’t have to let your kids down this year.

To start with, skip the extravagant accommodations entirely. Rather, take a look at campgrounds in an vicinity where you may want to spend your inexpensive getaway. However, do not overlook the fact that many campgrounds charge a nominal fee. It generally is not very much–often between ten and twenty bucks- so don’t get caught without some money!

Remember, on our cheap getaway we will want to stay near by. This will save you plenty on plane tickets or fuel. Even though the cost for gas somewhat stabilized, it nevertheless isn’t cheap, so staying in or near your own home state is simply the sensible thing to do.

As another option you might ask your ‘wealthy’ family members and friends that own a cabin if they would be willing to allow you to remain there for a few days. Many people are more than willing to offer this to you with inexpensive or greatly reduced lodging. A benefit to them is they don’t have to leave their cabin empty and dormant. And of course you will leave it in better condition than it was when you arrived, won’t you?

Take some time to investigate the activities your area provides. Many of us have a tendency to neglect the fantastic attractions right in our own back yards. This could be one of the most untapped opportunities that we should take the time to check out.

Lastly, do not forget about the off-season. You can save a lot of money and avoid a lot of the crowds just by doing something that is off-season. You will be able to avoid excessive air fares and discover reduced prices on all kinds of attractions.

These are just a few cheap getaway ideas. Be sure to discuss these things with your family to determine the best way to approach an inexpensive family vacation. Planning a getaway on a tight budget does have its challenges, but with the right ideas you can have just as much fun on an inexpensive getaway as with a full blown vacation!

To get in you fly to the Sandro Pertini Turin international airport, which was named after an Italian prime minister. Within the city you will find an ultra modern new metro which was built for the Winter Olympics which operates without the use of drivers.

Turin was built along the banks of the Po River and has a very pleasant aspect which is best discovered over time. The city is not as in-your-face with its charms as Rome for instance, but is rewarding to those who have the chance to stay.

Turin is very close to the French border and in some ways the layout of the city is more French than Italian. Impressive baroque architecture is visible almost everywhere you go and there are some landmarks. As Turin is renowned for its car manufacture you should not miss the Museo dell’Automobile.

It houses everything from Formula One sports cars to horse drawn carriages which were used in days gone by. The Mole Antonelliana is now one of Europe’s foremost museums about cinema but it used to be a synagogue. The huge building is well worth a few photographs. The Quadrilatero with all its restaurants is one of the best areas to go out.

We decided to hit the Magic Kingdom that evening! The Disney classics are always great and we had seen them so many times I knew we could knock out our favorite rides and attractions that evening. That would give us some extra time to visit Epcot and the other parks on the following days. I love taking photos in the Magic Kingdom and with my handy pocket tripod I can get some great night shots. Cinderella?s Castle is awesome at night and when you get just the right shot it feels good. I played with some settings and was able to get my wife?s face, in focus, as well as most of the castle. She hates when I do that because it takes a few tries, I never said I was a photographer. If you have never been then you may not know the Magic Kingdom was the first park built in Disney World. For me it still holds the same magic it did in the beginning. Some of the attractions I had to visit were Pirates of the Caribbean and the Country Bear Jamboree. Regardless of your age, the Magic Kingdom is a great time. I have heard you can still get married in front of the Castle but the cost is quite high so if you are planning your wedding and you just hit it big in Vegas or at the track then check it out.

So the next morning we woke up a little late and my wife decided we should visit Epcot Center. If you aren?t familiar with Epcot it?s themed after different countries. The idea is that you can spend a day and get a feel for the culture and cuisine for a number of countries. At 300 acres it is about twice as large as the Magic Kingdom. You can visit the 11 countries in 1 day but I recommend that you plan for two days at Epcot. If you try to see it all in a day you will be exhausted. There are always street performers and Disney characters to stop and watch and you visit each pavilion to get a feel for the culture. There are also rides like the Spaceship Earth that only takes about fifteen minutes to ride after what is usually quite a wait to get on. The test track go-carts are popular if you have kids and the Land Pavilion has some very interesting slow moving educational rides.

As our days continued we visited Hollywood Studios, formerly known as MGM Studios. There are rides and shows based on movies like Indiana Jones and Star Wars. They even have a Jedi Training Academy now so your kids can light saber fight Darth Vader. One of the most popular rides is the Tower of Terror so be prepared for a long wait, we skipped that one. I always enjoy the Studio Backlot Tour, another wait plus it takes over 30 minutes to complete so there goes another day, over before it started. OK I?m starting to remember why I haven?t been back for a while. Where did all these people come from? Ha!

On our last day visiting Disney World, we took on the Animal Kingdom. We had never been to this park before. Everyone makes a big deal out of the Tree of Life but to me it?s a man-made tree with animals carved in it, yeah I got smacked for that one. Seriously, it pales in comparison to the ?real? animals they have there. My camera and I enjoyed the animals. They also have some good rides and a lot of entertainment. Maybe because it was a new experience, I don’t know, but I enjoyed this day the most.

Going to Disney World was a great experience once again. This is a recommended vacation for anyone whether you have a large or small family. It brings you back to the innocence of being a child, and you will leave with a smile and some great memories. Thanks again Mickey.

We arrived in Phoenix, Arizona where we spent the night. We left Phoenix, not realizing it would take as long as it did to arrive at the Grand Canyon. Four-and-a-half-hours later, a couple of us grouchy from the long ride, the other two hungry due to poor planning, we finally arrived at the park. We paid the $25 car entrance fee. The receipt is good for seven days, in case you want to journey back, like we should have. There are also other discounts to look into such as the Golden Eagle Pass as well as the Golden Age Pass. Once you receive your receipt you will be handed a brochure as well as a Visitor’s Guide. The guide gives handy information such as parking that is available, bus routes, the South Rim views, and so forth. I strongly urge you to read all of this information before you arrive.

You need to decide if you want to park your car and take the shuttle bus; or, if you want to park the car, view one area, then take the car and move to the next area. I strongly recommend taking the shuttle bus. The shuttles operate frequently and they are free. The South Rim has four shuttle buses. They each takes different routes and make different stops. The Blue Route is 60 minutes, the Red Route is 75 minutes, the Purple Route is 40 minutes, and the Green Route is 30 minutes.
If you plan to stay at the park there are a number of hotels available. However, it is strongly suggested that you make reservations in advance. Since you have your car with you there are also other accommodations outside the gates of the park. Although I did not check chances are the rates are less expensive too. Just be aware that, depending on the time of year, some places will require reservations. There are also a number of restaurants available inside the park but they are not cheap.

If you plan to visit during the summer months you definitely need to be prepared. Although we had most everything we needed, hats, water, sun screen, both of our friends had on very uncomfortable shoes. You will be doing a lot of walking so be sure you wear comfortable shoes.

While the trip was enjoyable and the views were magnificent it could have been better with some planning on our part. Even though our trip was not well-planned it was still a fascinating, entertaining, and educational adventure. Some day we will return and we will do it right.

Although about 91,000 people live in this city in Tuscany, Northern Italy, that number swells considerably over the summer. Tourists who keep an open mind will find that there are many incredible buildings and artworks to see in Pisa. That is not to stop you from taking the obligatory photograph where it looks like you are holding up the tower with your hands.

So start at the aptly named Campo dei Miracoli which is the hub of the tourist trade and move out to less crowded but equally beautiful areas. Like any place that is jammed with tourists there are quite a few pickpockets to watch out for but other than that you will find Pisa to be a safe city. The only area that can be dodgy is the train station where some undesirables congregate at night. This is a good reason to have a rental vehicle which is more reasonably priced than having to take multiple taxis.

Cars can be collected from Galileo Galilei, the main flight terminal which serves Pisa. It operates lots of low cost flights and so is good for people who want to have a budget holiday in Pisa. Check your flight times though as this airport does not stay open all night.

The road you will use to complete your journey is the Firenze Pisa Livorno dual carriageway. You then take the Pisa Centro exit of the A12 motorway. This leads to the A11 motorway – Firenze Pisa Nord. Then just follow signs for Pisa.

Although you might need car hire Pisa at the international airport for your luggage, once you have arrived you will find that Pisa is small enough to walk around. This is a bustling university town which is full of students and plenty of bars and cafes to keep them occupied. The best reason to hire a car is to be able to see other parts of Tuscany which are also stunning. The city of Florence is only eighty kilometres away and so a short drive by car.

Within Pisa the Cathedral of Pisa is a magnificent building with a gorgeous dome. The Battistero is also a fine dome in the Romanesque style. From the top you can get the best view of the Leaning Tower or Torre Pendente. Have a listen to the audio effects in the Cathedral by singing a few notes, they are quite special. To preserve some of the cathedral artefacts they were moved to the nearby Museo del Opera del Duomo which is full of interesting paintings and sculptures.

A good time to go to Pisa is during June when various festivals are held. During the third week of June the Luminara festival in honour of the patron saint takes place. One week later there is a historical procession along both sides of the bridge which remembers how the city used to be split. The festival is known as the game of bridge. June is one of the busiest times for booking a car in Pisa so make sure you give lots of advance notice.

This airport was once a trans-continental powerhouse, but in recent years has focused on providing a transportation hub for European destinations in particular. Pretty all European airlines, as well as many airlines from elsewhere in the world, direct at least some of their aircraft through it.

Gatwick recently announced plans to expand their infrastructure with a one billion pound investment aimed at improving the visitor experience in terms of everything from access to aesthetics. Those responsible for running the airport feel that this investment will allow them to match, or even surpass, Heathrow airport, whose shadow it is has constantly had to exist under, in terms of amenities and passenger accessibility.

Though Gatwick has always been considered a ‘lesser’ airport than Heathrow, this is due to the merits of the latter rather than any shortcomings in the former. Indeed, Gatwick airport has a history that warrants more attention than it is generally given…

#1 – Royal Attentions

The Queen of England has twice graced Gatwick airport with her presence. In 1956 the airport temporarily closed in order to undergo a major redevelopment, and it was Queen Elizabeth II who oversaw the ceremonies in 1958. Then, thirty years later, the Queen and Prince Phillip were also present for the opening of the new North Terminal as well.

#2 – Advances in Architecture

In 1936, Gatwick unveiled the world’s first circular airport terminal, dubbed the Beehive. It was an extraordinary achievement, as it was the first terminal to combine literally every necessary stage of air travel. There was a rail link directly to the terminal, and for the first time passengers could directly board their aircraft instead of having to travel across the runway on foot or by bus.

#3 – The Blitz

The second World War saw Gatwick become primarily a military airport, to aid Britain with its air to air combat against the deadly German air-force. Gatwick participated when it was requisitioned by the RAF as a combat airfield, and provided service to a number of important operations necessary to keeping England’s skies clear of bombers.

#4 – From Jockeys to Pilots

Did you know that Gatwick used to be a racecourse? Purchased from private hands in 1890, the land was turned into a modern racing facility that even included its own railway station. Now called Gatwick Airport Station, this point was originally the Gatwick Racecourse Station, and even retained this name up until the opening of the Beehive forty five years later. The course even served as a substitute for the Grand National when the bombings in World War I made it unsafe to use the original course.

#5 – Private Fliers

Gatwick was not originally a public airport for major travel. In the 20’s and 30’s, for example, it was a private flying club controlled by Ronald Waters. The Surrey Aero Club used their growing prestige to promote interest in flying in general, and helped contribute to the continued growth of the airfield, to the point that Gatwick received its first commercial flying licenses in 1934.

There are different theories about how Curacao got its name. Curacao means ?heart? in Portuguese.

Curacao is known as centre in trade, which means ?healing?, as it has various floras growing in the island. Spanish traders named it Curacao which was continued by the Dutch. Another theory is that Curacao was the name the indigenous people of Curacao had used to label themselves.

Clothing:

Currency:

Antillean Guilder is the currency locally used, also called the Florin. The exchange rate is, US $ 1= Nafl 1.78. The rate varies at shops and restaurant. All major shops and stores accept US dollars. Credit Cards and travelers cheques are easily accepted. The exchange office at the airport opens at 7.30 am till 4.00p.m. Also, almost all midsized shopping centres have an ATM.

Health:

There is no tropical illness as such in Curacao. Stomach disorders due to food generally don?t happen. There is good hygiene supervision in the kitchens of the restaurants. Feel free to have whatever food you wish. But take good care of protecting yourself from the sun, especially in the afternoon. You may find sunglasses, t-shirts and sunscreen lotions helpful.

Dolphin Academy:

This complex near sea aquarium is a shelter to six dolphins. There are natural basins linked to the sea, where these dolphins swim around. Wild Curacao:

An expert on the local nature and history takes you through a special walking tour through exotic and intriguing places in the wild. These trips are organized only on Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays. The full moon walk through the salt planes of Jan Tiel is simply breathtaking. Other places include Boca Table, West Punk, Knip Beach and Jan Oak.

The Ostrich Aloe Safari:

This one?s simply amazing. You get on a zebra jeep and are driven off to the secluded North Eastern Island, with a guide narrating you about the countryside. Hof?i Pastoor:

This is a small garden that is near the village of Barber. It provides you a nice experience if you are a nature lover. This place is located on the road to Westpunt in Barberton.
